Beer is clearly the favourite drink among youngsters in the city, especially among working professionals and students. At least the excise statistics indicate so. According to yearly sales figure released by the excise department, the sale of beer has grown by almost 25 per cent in the financial year 2010-2011 as compared to 2009-2010.u00a0
While sales of foreign liquor have gone up by 14.07 per cent, for wine the ascent has been 10.21 per cent. Vijay Kutty, president of the Pune District Wine Trader's Association, said the weather and the young, cosmopolitan crowd worked in favour of beer.
