Following a goof-up with the date of admission, hospital bills youth extra; resolves issue instantly
An administrative goof-up by the staff of Sahyadri Hospital in Kothrud added to the agony of Lav Choudhary, a 21-year-old youth who underwent an operation in the hospice earlier this week. The hospital authorities allegedly refused to discharge Lav and demanded more money than he actually owed them.
Lavu00a0 fractured his left leg in an accident on June 28, following which, he was admitted to the hospital the next day at 1.30 am.
Later, he was taken to the operation theatre at 4.50 am and his operation continued till 5.50 am.
But yesterday afternoon, before he was to be discharged from the hospital, Lav received a rude shock as he discovered that the billed amount was about Rs 6,000 more than what he actually owed to the hospital. It was subsequently discovered that the hospital records had the date and timing of admission wrong.
Akshat Agarwal, Lav's friend, said, "Lav was admitted on June 29 at around 1.30 am but the authorities had entered the date as June 28. Also, the duration of the operation was wrongly recorded as three hours instead of one hour."
He added that after checking with the doctors, the authorities rectified their mistake.
Vrushali Misal, from the HR department of Sahyadri Hospital, admitted that the bloated bill was a mistake on the part of the hospital.
"The matter was resolved immediately after it was brought to our notice," Misal added.
