After some unidentified bike-borne assailants attacked two young women with sharp-edged weapons in Mangolpuri area on Sunday night, police are virtually working day and night to crack the case and nab the culprits. In the last two days, the cops have so far detained and questioned around 45 people in relation to this case.

"On Sunday we had detained 25 people and on Monday we detained 20 more for questioning. We are zeroing in on the hooligans of the area, especially the young one who keep roaming aimlessly in the area. The injured women have managed to describe how the assailants looked like and we are following those leads," said Chhaya Sharma, DCP Outer Delhi.

Police suspect that the attacks might have been handiwork of some psychopaths as was the case in similar incidents that occurred some time back, or it may be just that some people were trying to create panic. "The investigation is in a primary stage, so we can't say much but we are working on every point to solve this case," Chhaya added.

Last month, Delhi Police had arrested four people who used surgical blades to slash victims if they resisted robbery attempts. The gang also attacked victims with blades and knives if the victims did not carry enough money. Police said one motorcycle, four surgical blades and cash amounting to Rs 1,51,000 were been recovered from them.u00a0However, their link with the recent attacks on women in Mangolpuri could not been established.
