Gruesome death for young girl, mother suffers injuries
It seems a tiger can lose its stripes, but Delhi's notorious blueline buses will never mend their ways. At around 7pm on Wednesday a speeding blueline ran over a one-and-a-half-year-old girl in Gulabi bagh area of northwest Delhi.
Chinta Devi (28) was standing by the roadside with her young daughter Karishma near the DDA flats in Gulabi Bagh. Suddenly an over-speeding blueline, plying on route no. 142 (Jehangirpuri to Kashmiri Gate ISBT), lost balance and hit Chinta.
Due to the impact she was thrown back by 4-5 feet; her daughter, who she was carrying in her arms, fell on the road and the bus ran over her. Karishma was completely crushed under the weight of the bus and she died instantly. Her head was found 20 feet away from the spot.
Onlookers say that even after the incident, the driver of the bus didn't stop and in fact tried to flee, but failed due to the heavy traffic.
The driver then got off the bus and ran away from the spot. The bus was full of passengers and was headed towards Kashmiri Gate ISBT. As soon as the commuters got off, a mob started pelting the bus with stones. The police have registered an FIR of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the absconding driver. Chinta Devi has been admitted to a nearby hospital and her condition is said to be stable.
