British-era silver coins recovered with arrest of six

The coins are from 1906-1947.u00a0The arrested persons were identified as Sandip alias Hemant Pawar (23), Vijay Pawar (26), Hanumant Chavan (43), Vijay Dahiwal (42), Suresh Kumbhar (45) and Shashikant Shingare (25). u00a0Dahiwal, Kumbhar and Shingare are jewellers from Kolhapur district. The complaint had been filed by the lawyer, Mohan Taware, a resident of Malegaon.u00a0

Senior Police Inspector Nitin Kumar Gokawe of the LCB said the Taware family was not at home on April 13, having gone away to attend a family function. u00a0He said at midnight the suspects broke into the Taware home and decamped with the coins, the gun and the mobile handset.u00a0"When the family returned home, they found all their silver coins and revolver stolen. Taware lodged a complaint with the Baramati police station," Gokawe said.

He said the police formed a team to catch the burglars during the investigations. "Our team detected another house burglary and arrested Sandip Pawar, Vijay Pawar and Chavan, and during their interrogation, the suspects spilled the beans," Gokawe said.u00a0"They confessed they had executed a house burglary at Taware's house and made away with the British-era coins and other things." u00a0He said the suspects said they had thrown the revolver in a well near the village and melted 10 kg of the coins with the help of three jewellers to make a brick.

"From the location given by the suspects, we recovered the revolver from the well and also arrested three jewellers from Kolhapur district," Gokawe said. "We also recovered the remaining 10 kg of the coins from their possession."u00a0Gokawe said Taware had received the silver coins from his ancestors and the revolver was purchased from England.u00a0
