But the police said Imran was not their main accused. They said they were looking for the main accused, Nasir alias Salim, who along with four other members of the gang, succeeded in escaping.

But the police said they were on Nasir's scent. Nasir is believed to be among the several peddlers who specialise in supplying brown sugar to city techies and college students.

Imran, a resident of Mavalli, was allegedly involved in the racket for over two years and had been selling more than 30 grams of brown sugar per day, worth nearly Rs 80,000. Imran holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and is close to Nasir, who heads the drug mafia in the city. The police believe the gang has a large number of agents actively supplying marijuana and brown sugar.

The police said Imran's specific areas of operation were hostels, college PG centres and college campuses.
Recently some colleges had suspended girl students in the Pulakeshi Nagar area for bunking classes, saying that they did so to take banned substances.

Imran's most profitable campus was believed to be Christ College, one of the 44 universities in the country recently in the news for likely loss of their deemed status.

Imran also allegedly sold some drugs in Dharmavaram College near Dairy Circle.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Women and Narcotics Squad) Lakshman said,
"We are looking for the asconders. We have collected Rs 75,000 worth of brown sugar from Imran."
A case has been filed in Siddapur police station.
