CBI raids Adarsh promoter's homes

A seven-member team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the houses of Brig (Retd) M M Wanchoo ufffd one of the promoters of the controversial Adarsh Society ufffd located at the Salunke Vihar and Clover Heights society premises in Kondhwa. The raid continued for eight hours. But the members of the CBI team refused to part with any information.

Brig (retd) Wanchoo's name also figures in the list of 13, against whom the First Information Report (FIR) was registered on Saturday. On January 18, the High Court had directed the CBI to file the FIR within two weeks.

The CBI team landed in the city yesterday morning. They started the raid at around 7 am at Wanchoo's residence at E-1 building in Salunke Vihar ufffd the Army Welfare Housing Society ufffd located on NIBM road in Kondhwa.

The CBI team then moved on to the Clover Heights society around 1 pm where a flat reportedly owned by Wanchoo's daughter and son-in-law was raided. The flat on the seventh floor of the B-2 building bore the nameplate of Arati and Sanjay Mehta.

Wanchoo was one of the promoters of the Adarsh Society and held the post of secretary. The team reportedly searched for documents related to the Adarsh Society and the clearances Brig Wanchoo got from his office.

The CBI officials in the team refused to comment. When asked to part with the basic details of the operation, the CBI official said, "We are not authorised to speak to the media."
