First merit list that was to be out today gets postponed; board officials to meet on Monday

The chaos created by the decision of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to introduce two different types of exams and to issue grade-sheets instead of mark-sheets for Std X students only grew after officials from the education board announced that FYJC admissions in the city stood postponed because of confusion among CBSE students. On July 8, the centralised admission committee was supposed to declare the first merit list for bifocal science stream admissions. But the entire process has been delayed because of the CBSEd decision to not issue mark-sheets.

"The merit list is postponed and the reason is confusion because of CBSE students. Many of the students have not yet got the mark-sheets and without the mark-sheets, we don't know how to go about the admission process," Sunil Magar, deputy director of education, said. "That's why the merit list is postponed as we don't want any deserving student to suffer because of technical issues." Magar added that board officials had arranged for a meeting on Monday to decide the future course of action.

CBSE principals say
CBSE school principals said that the confusion was unnecessary and that clear directives had been issued by the board on admissions for students I the state. "A letter had come on June 6, available on the CBSE website, marked to all state education departments stating that for Maharashtra state students a consolidated mark-sheet of all students will be provided to schools as well as education officials. The schools were asked to help students seeking admission in state board colleges fill forms by putting in their marks and a copy of the same mark-list was available with board officials for cross-verification. Hence, if there is any confusion, we don't know how it could be," said Jaya Venkatraman, principal of Aundh DAV school.
