CID charges port staff, 7 firms in ore scandal

The CID has submitted its first chargesheet in the case including Mahesh Biliye, port conservator, Belekeri port, along with seven companies.The others included in the chargesheet are -- Salagaonkar Mining, Tungabhadra Minerals, Gimpex Ltd, and the following representatives of these companies, Ramasubba Reddy, executive director, Tungabhadra Minerals, Ramachandra Vasu Nayak, senior manager, Salagaonkar Mining Industries , and K Chandran, supervisor, Gimpex Ltd

Officer involved
According to the chargesheet, Mahesh Biliye, port conservator of Belekeri port, conspired with export companies and helped them in the theft and illegal export of the ore. Salagaonkar Mining stole and exported 50,250 metric tonne iron ore.

Its sister firm, Tungabhadra Minerals, stole and sold 23,504 metric tonne to Salagaonkar Mining, of which 15,416 metric tonne was exported. A total of 1,05,639 metric tonne of seized iron ore was stolen, of which 97,551 metric tonne was exported from Belekeri port.
