Ankush Rane, Industries Minister Narayan Rane's cousin, went missing and was found dead on Sunday. The state CID department is now investigating the case after Rane alleged foul play

Inspector General of CID S B Savarkar reached Sindhudurg yesterday, a day after the case related to the alleged abduction and subsequent murder of Ankush Rane (49), was handed over to the state CID department.

Savarkar's alacrity is being credited to the fact that Ankush Rane was the third cousin of Maharashtra Industries Minister Narayan Rane. "I am in Sindhudurg and investigations are on. Let us see what comes out," is all Savarkar told MiD DAY. Narayan Rane's son, Nilesh, who is the Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Sindhudurg, has blamed his political rivals for the murder.

Agencies quoted Director General of Police S S Virk saying, "A CID probe has been ordered into the incident as the minister wanted the investigation to be conducted without any local pressure."

Missing and dead
Ankush Rane's decomposed body was recovered late on Sunday in Kasarde Brahmanwadi on the Mumbai-Goa highway, close to his hometown Fanaswadi.

Rane had gone missing on Friday evening and was last seen half-a-kilometre from Fanaswadi in the Kankavali sub-district.

The postmortem report of the deceased, which the local police handed over to the CID yesterday, reveals that Ankush bled heavily from severe head and face injuries.
