The New Year seems to have brought a reason to smile for all those who fall in the Lower Income Group (LIG) and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category.u00a0The City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited (CIDCO) has decided to construct 3,590 houses for the LIG and EWS category in the next three year. The development body plans to construct 968 homes for the LIG category and 2,622 homes under the EWS category.
Recently, the board of directors had approved the proposal of constructing these houses in Kharghar area where CIDCO has already started construction of 1,118 homes for the High Income Group (HIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG).
CIDCO superintending engineer Brijesh Shami said, "These houses will be built on the plot that is next to the ongoing housing project for MIG and HIG homes in Kharghar. This new housing project will have homes for the LIG and EWS category. While the area for a LIG house will be 370 square feet, a EWS house will have an area of 304 square feet."
All the 968 LIG homes would be constructed in 22 buildings (ground floor plus seven) while the 2,622 EWS homes would be housed in 32 buildings (ground plus 14). CIDCO is set to spend Rs 553 crore for constructing 3,590 homes and construction work is expected to commence in the next six months.
"The board has approved the proposal for construction of these homes and we are likely to receive the approval letter in the next few days. Once we receive the letter, the contract will be awarded soon. The contractor is expected to finish the construction of all the 3,590 homes in the span of 27 months, from the date of issuing of work order," said Shami.
All 54 buildings for LIG and EWS will have lifts and basic amenities. According to sources, CIDCO has surveyed its plots in Vashi, Ghansoli and Panchnad in Taloja for construction of more homes under its mass housing scheme. But except Panchnad, CIDCO plots in Vashi and Ghansoli are stuck in legal issues.
