Delhi Traffic Police asks residents to avoid the heat of the city, as its renovation would be commencing Tuesday
After a brief interlude, chaos will be back in Connaught Place starting today. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is starting restoration work in the area. This means shops in Inner, Outer, Middle circles and those on radial roads that connect Outer to Middle Circle and Middle Circle to Inner Circle will turn inaccessible once again.
The Delhi Taffic Police (DTP) issued an advisory on Monday asking Delhi residents to avoid CP for the next eight months. However, the redevelopment work is slated to continue till April 2012.
"The New Delhi Municipal Corporation is taking up the redevelopment work including construction of remaining work of subways at Panchkuian Road, Barakhamba Road and service corridor in the middle circle and on radial roads," said a police official.
Barricades would be in place at all these spots for the proposed redevelopment work. As a consequence, congestion is expected in and around the area.
"People will be able to enter the inner circle from Janpath, Panchkuian Road, State Entry Road and Shankar Market. Traffic from inner circle will exit from Sansad Marg, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Minto Road and Barakhamba Road," added the official.
According to traffic cops, movement of vehicles and parking would be restricted in the middle circle and some of the bus routes will also be altered.
"People should avoid coming here in view of the expected congestion and are advised to use metro and other public transport for their convenience," the official said.
