Rescue act: Geeta (name changed) is a Nepalese citizen. |
It's the same old story. 20-year-old Geeta (name changed) says she came to Delhi from Nepal looking for a job. But she fell under the influence of a woman associated with flesh trade, who told her that there was a lot of money to be made in the business.
"I thought that I would return to my place after 6 months but the owner of the prostitution homes never allowed me to go. My parents contacted the Nepal based NGO Maithi and the NGO told Delhi police about me" said Geeta.
The Delhi police revealed late on Wednesday that it has rescued Geeta and another girl from the red light area in Kamla Market. While Geeta is a Nepalese national the other girl is from Karnataka. The police have also arrested 18 pimps from the area. After Maithi, the NGO from Nepal, contacted them, the police found Geeta after a long investigation.
"I wasn't able to find a job so I decided to go with the lady who asked me to join her prostitution racket. I thought that I will go home once I earn enough money but these people used me," Geeta added.
Members of Maithi are on their way to Delhi to take Geeta back to Nepal. The other girl is being sent to her hometown in Karnataka. The police say they are investigating the matter and efforts are on to nab the bigger fish.
