CCTV footage shows a foreign national swiping a gold ring from jewellery store
After scores of reports about shopkeepers duping the na ve foreigners, a story in reverse has come to the fore.
In yet another case in Lajpat Nagar, a foreigner was caught on close-circuit television (CCTV) camera stealing a gold ring at a jewellery shop. Police said they were scrutinising the footage to round-up the culprit.u00a0

"Reportedly, the accused is an Iraq national. He came to Gandaram Jewellers on the pretext of buying something and asked the attendant to show him costliest rings. He then asked the attendants to convert the
price of the ring in foreign currency. While they were busy doing so, the accused quickly exchanged the ring with the one he was carrying and left the shop.
The attendants got suspicious and checked the ring, only to find it was not gold," said a police official. Meanwhile, Vineet Mehra, who owns the shop, said many such incidents have been reported from the area but police were not taking any action.
"We had given the CCTV footage to police on July 20. The FIR, however, was lodged four days later," said Mehra.
