Cash-for-vote scam: Delhi HC grants bail to Amar Singh

The Delhi High Court on Monday granted bail to Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh, who was arrested in connection with his alleged role in the 2008 cash-for-vote scam, on medical grounds.


The Delhi High Court on Monday granted bail to Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh, who was arrested in connection with his alleged role in the 2008 cash-for-vote scam, on medical grounds.

Singh has been asked to pay of Rs one crore for two sureties.

Singh has been charge sheeted for the offence under section 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act read with section 120 B (conspiracy) of IPC.u00a0 He had moved the High Court after a city court had on September 28 rejected both his interim and regular bail pleas.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where Singh is admitted, had on Oct 12 submitted a medical report in court saying that he needs constant medical monitoring.

The cash-for-votes scam had rocked proceedings in the Lok Sabha in 2008, when the ruling UPA Government, led by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, allegedly bribed lawmakers of other parties to help wining the confidence vote.
