Parliament staff held for trying to sneak in mobile phone

Foiling an apparent security breach at the Parliament annexe, a 35-year-old generator operator in the Parliament House was detained while trying to sneak in a mobile phone hiding it in his socks on Wednesday.

According to police sources, Santosh Kumar was trying to enter Parliament from the gate near Talkatora stadium at about 7 pm. The security personnel found a mobile phone tucked in his socks while frisking Kumar.
"Senior officers of the Parliament security were informed about the incident. He was jointly interrogated by officials of the parliament security and the intelligence bureau," sources said.

Before being handed over to the Parliament Street police station, Kumar was kept under detention for the entire time since 7 pm Wednesday. He was handed over to the local police at about 2.30 pm on Thursday.

"Kumar was working as a generator operator at Parliament House for the past ten months. He hails from Bihar and has no place to stay in Delhi. He was living with his parents for a while but when they left for Bihar, he thought he would keep the phone with him. He was trying to sneak in the phone, thinking that it will not be allowed by the security," a senior police officer said.

Kumar is still under detention and the cops are running background checks on him. A team of Delhi police's special cell -- which is responsible for anti-terror operations -- also went to the Parliament Street police station to jointly interrogate Santosh Kumar. The contractor who had hired Kumar is also being interrogated.

Mistaken Identity

A CBI official was detained on Thursday near the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium for using a security sticker on his vehicle bearing a different registration number. He was later released after interrogation.
The incident took place around 9.30 a.m. when the Tata Sumo vehicle, in which the official was travelling, was spotted at gate number one of the Central Government Offices (CGO) complex next to the stadium, the venue for the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony.
The sticker on the vehicle had a different registration number that led to a security scare as armed commandos surrounded the vehicle.
Later it was found that the vehicle was driven by an Uttar Pradesh police constable and an assistant superintendent of police of the CBI's Anti-Corruption Bureau in Delhi was travelling in it.
The official was immediately taken to Lodhi Road police station where he was questioned and his identity verified.
The CBI official said he put the security sticker, issued by the home ministry for CGO complex entry, from another vehicle.
The Delhi Police on Wednesday alerted the security agencies and home ministry's control room that a 'suspicious' vehicle had entered Delhi from Noida with an Uttar Pradesh registration number.
