28-yr-old Chaitanya Datla to be first woman to sail on an Indian Navy warship

Defeating over 50,000 candidates from all over the country, 28-year-old Chaitanya Datla is all set to create history by becoming the first woman to sail on an Indian Navy warship. After undergoing a month of tough exercises and tests, the human resources executive from Bengaluru has been declared the winner of the National Geographic channel's "Mission Navy: Lehron Ke Sartaj" contest.

With this initiative, National Geographic provided five civilians including three women, the unique opportunity to be a part of the Indian Navy.


"I not only got to learn the science behind the submarines and other warships but was also trained in beaching operations. I got to perform the difficult jack stay, underwent a G-Force test, among other tasks,"u00a0 said Chaitanya.

Speaking about her win, she said, "It has been a privilege to experience what it takes to be in the Indian Navy.u00a0 I always aspired to be a part of the armed forces and Nat Geo's programme helped me realise it. I also feel that this is a triumph for all Indian women. For us nothing is impossible."

The programme offered participants a unique opportunity to be a part of the landmark docu-reality series. "We are proud of the series.
