Germany-based NRI, Devender Nirman Singh, the culprit made away with 15,000 euros leaving 400 pounds untouched.u00a0


The victim had gone to meet her brother-in-law at the time. She suspects that the thief knew where she had kept the euros. "All my valuables including the 400 pounds I had kept in my wardrobe were intact. Maybe the burglar could not find it," Singh said.

The NRI owns several hotels in Germany. She said she had recently returned from a trip to Germany and England.

Singh said when she came back from her sister's house she found the lock to the main door broken. "When I entered the house, I found even the keys at the proper place. We got a shock when we opened the two rooms in whichu00a0 theu00a0 almirahs were broken. Twenty eight euros which were in denominations of 500 and few of 100 were missing," said Singh, showing her broken cupboard.

Police said they arrested Sanjeev, the brother of Singh's domestic help. However, the cops refused to divulge anymore information saying that they have to recover the stolen amount. A police source said Sanjeev and his father-in-law Kashi Ram are being questioned in this regard.

"Sanjeev might have hidden the euros in a pothole. He hails from UP and has a crime record there. He used to hide stolen money in a pothole in an empty plot nearby. Its possible that he did the same with the euros," said the source.

Police said they are looking into the matter and an FIR has been registered in this respect.

Two days ago, a theft ofu00a0 10,000 euros was reported from an NRI's house in Shakarpur area of East Delhi. Police said the victim, Ashwini Kumar who is based in Italy, informed the police and an FIR was registered. Cops said they are investigating the matter and no one has been arrested yet.
