An All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) doctor Thursday lost his father who was seriously injured when he fell into a large pit left uncovered by civic authorities here.
Sher Singh, 67, succumbed at the AIIMS Trauma Centre to internal head injuries he suffered Monday after collapsing into the pit dug up outside the Syndicate bank in South Delhi's Chattarpur area.
His son, Surinder Singh, a senior doctor with the AIIMS faculty, Thursday blamed civic authorities for his father's fall and death.
"That pit which I examined was an open invitation to disaster, and that is what happened," Surinder Singh told IANS. "They had put thin boards over it for people to reach the bank. It was totally unsafe."

A case of criminal negligence has been registered at the Mehrauli police station. Surinder Singh said he planned to file criminal cases against both the civic authorities and the contractor.
The deceased, Sher Singh, was retired from the Indian Army. He took part in the 1962 war against China and the 1965 war against Pakistan.
