Members of the BBMP standing committee for major works trained their guns on Mantri Mall for going back on their promise to construct a road in order to alleviate traffic congestion on the busy Sampige road.

BBMP had directed the management of the mall to construct a planned road at the rear of the building while issuing the Occupancy Certificate (OC).

Despite confirming that they would, the management has failed to construct the road, further worsening the traffic situation on Sampige road, which connects Majestic to Yeshwanthpur. Taking strong note of this, committee chairman, A Ravindra has directed the deputy director of town planning to cancel the OC till management complies.

Traffic advisor to the state government M N Srihari, however, said that the BBMP cannot cancel the OC as they were aware of the existing problem. "Its not in good taste for the BBMP," he said, adding that Mantri Mall has already completed all the base work for construction of a four lane road and only asphalting work is pending. This has been discontinued because of ongoing Metro work, and hence Mantri Mall is nowhere at fault.

Terming the committee inspection as a farce, Srihari suggested that the state government intervene in this regard. Meanwhile, Mantri Developers have not received any formal notice from BBMP regarding widening of the road. "We will be able to react once we see the notice or formal letter from BBMP," said a Mantri spokesperson.
