WHILE India is still recovering from the loss of three top police officials in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, Pune police commissionerate does not have a single good photograph of the martyrs.
When MiD DAY approached the commissionerate reception to ask for the photographs of Hemant Karkare, Ashok Kamte and Vijay Salaskar, the answer came in the negative.
The receptionist guided the reporter to the forensic and photography cell of the crime branch within the commissionerate to look for the pictures.

While the officer on duty, R K Pharande, was away, his assistant R Pardeshi said they did have any picture that can be reproduced.

"We have pictures which show them after they were shot," he said.
The policeman also had the heart to say that when Kamte was in Pune, "he was not such a senior officer". "He was mostly in Mumbai, why should his picture be here?" he said.
The forensic office had photos of the martyrs taken from countless posters that Punekars had displayed all along the mourning and are still seen on street corners.
