The Congress policy planning group for Jammu and Kashmir met in New Delhi on Friday under leadership of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and expressed deep concern on unprovoked Pakistan firing in Jammu region "leading to multiple deaths, devastation and exodus of a few lakh citizens". The group expressed concern on "inadequate" relief and rehabilitation measures for citizens by the PDP-BJP government in the state and called on it to adequately provide for relocation and rehabilitation of citizens to safer places and provide succour.

The group that has visited both Jammu and Kashmir has not been able to visit Kargil and Ladakh due to inclement weather. Sources said it was decided to visit the two areas in April 2018.

They said that Manmohan Singh will depute individual members to visit different district headquarters of the Jammu region for deeper deliberation with Congress members, civil society representatives and common citizens.
