Pending reply from civil court, PMC yet to disqualify corporator serving life term

Convict corporator: Datta Khade was expelled by the BJP

Khade was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder with two others by Additional Session's Judge S S Phansalkar-Joshi in 2009. Despite the fact that Khade was expelled from BJP in December 2009, he continued to be PMC member until date.u00a0Municipal commissioner Mahesh Zagade has sent a proposal to the general body to disqualify Khade from the PMC.


Neelesh Nikam, leader of the PMC House, said there would be no general body (GB) meeting until December 15 and all the topics on agenda including Khade's disqualification decision had been postponed. As a legal practice, the PMC has directed the proposal to disqualify Khade to the civil court, he added.

Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal, said: "I heard the proposal to disqualify Khade will be discussed in GB, but nothing has come to me so far from the PMC administration." However, he hinted that it would be discussed in the GB in December.

A senior BJP corporator, under the condition of anonymity, said: "We feel really ashamed that the PMC have some corporators in all parties who have criminal backgrounds. Some have been charged under murder, some for attempted murder and remaining for land grabbing. They are all 'qualified' to sit in the PMC GB as the court has not proved them guilty."
