In another breakthrough by the Central Crime Branch in its ongoing crackdown on betting rackets, sleuths raided a real estate agency in Banashankari and arrested two people.


In another breakthrough by the Central Crime Branch in its ongoing crackdown on betting rackets, sleuths raided a real estate agency in Banashankari and arrested two people.

ACP B N Nyamegowda said that the accused Ashok Kumar was arrested based on a tip-off from people who were not given their money in spite of winning. A habitual offender, Kumar is assumed to have made around Rs 5 crore during the World Cup matches.

Nyamegowda said, "Kumar wasn't working alone and was running the racket in association with Mumbai-based bookie identified as Kailash alias Bacchan. Kumar's arrest led to his brother, Dinesh Kumar, also a bookie being arrested by Tilak Nagar police."

Following the arrests, the police recovered a TV, mobile phones and cash of Rs 2 lakh. A senior police officer who was part of the operation said that earlier, people who were cheated by bookies rarely approached the police fearing a boomerang effect.

However, now that they have begun to do so, it provides the police with leads and a majority of the raids and arrests made so far were all based on tip-off's given by personsu00a0 cheated by bookies.
