The Pune police are on the lookout for a Myanmar student, Mang In Khoop, who has been absconding since 2007.

This development gains significance, as DCP (crime) Anil Kumbhare yesterday said that two other Myanmar nationals Maulana Johar Alam alias Jaffer and Nazir Mohammed Maulana alias Mistry were arrested earlier this month for illegal entry into India.u00a0

"We routinely take illegal Bangladeshi nationals into custody, but these two are the first Myanmar citizens to be arrested," he said.

Khoop, who was registered as a student at Spicer Memorial College, was staying inu00a0 Room Number 23 of the college hostel. After the Foreign Register Office noticed his overstay and asked him to renew his passport and visa, Khoop gave the authorities the slip in 2007.

Kumbhare said human trafficking angle could not be ruled out. This is because Jaffer was said to have met a Bangladeshi man Maulana Mustafizur Rehman Sayed in Bangladesh.

Sayed was arrested on June 14 from Mysore for preparing fake identity and educational documents and brought to Pune.

The police have contacted Myanmar authorities for further investigations.
