A dreaded criminal in the Parvati area, notorious as Chocolate and wanted by the various police stations in the city for offences like murder, attempt to murder, chain snatching, robbery, rioting, molestation, and terrorising people, has been arrested by city police.
Cops said the offender's real name is Sunil Dokephode, but when he entered the world of crime at a young age, his hair was brown, because of which people started calling him Chocolate Sunil, and later just Chocolate.
"There are at least 15 cases lodged against Chocolate in various police stations in the city, as well as in the rural police and Dattawadi police station jurisdiction. He was arrested in 2009 for murdering a minor boy over a petty dispute in the Janata vasahat in Parvati area," said assistant inspector Sampat Pawar of Dattawadi police station.
After being released on bail in the case, he even started chain snatching, robbery, rioting and theft.
"On June 30, while patrolling the hills of Parvati, our police personnel spotted him and he was taken into custody. While frisking him, a weapon was also recovered," said Pawar.
Senior police inspector, Satish Gowekar said that during interrogation, Sunil spilled the beans and confessed to chain snatchings.
"So far we have recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 25,000 from him, which he had snatched from Parvati area a few days back," he said. u00a0
