After death of a boy, 85 traffic cops will monitor new one-way roads from today
It took the death of a little boy for this to happen. But starting today, 85 traffic cops of the ranks of PI and PSI will monitor the traffic on the citiy's new one-way roads Jangli Maharaj (JM) Road, Fergusson College (FC) Road and Ganesh Khind (GK) Road.
The decision was made in the wake of the death of six-year-old Yash Waghmare on JM road on Saturday by two speeding PMPML buses.
Confirming the decision, DCP Manoj Patil (Traffic) said that now, the speed limit willu00a0 be monitored with speed guns and severe action will be taken against offenders. "This will be enforced on all vehicles, including PMPML buses. The drivers should not cross the speed limit of 15 km per hour on busy roads," he said. The PMC will also introduce Internet Protocol Surveillance Camera to check rash driving. Statistics indicate PMPML is responsible for at least 16 deaths every year.
Meanwhile, Ravindra Sengaonkar, DCP, Special branch, who had taken an initiative to segregate traffic on J M Road, feels people should give the one-way system a chance.
