A policeman was killed while another critically injured after unidentified assailants shot at them and escaped with their service weapons in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, police said Thursday
Two police constables, Krishanpal and Amit, were shot by a group of four assailants as they were patrolling the Thanabhawan police station area of the district, some 350 km from Lucknow.
"The four miscreants first assaulted the two police constables and snatched away their rifles. After the two policemen raised an alarm, the miscreants started firing at them indiscriminately," said a police statement issued here.
"With multiple bullet injuries, both the policemen were rushed to a hospital. While Krishanpal succumbed to his injuries, Amit was referred to a hospital in Meerut as his condition deteriorated," it added.
