The incident came to light when the Yelahanka New town police were investigating a missing person case, involving the victim Murali. After discovering his charred body in an isolated place in the outskirts of the city, the cops expedited investigations and found out was last seen on May 6.
His mobile phone call records showed that the last call he had received was from his friend Sampath Kumar.
After monitoring Kumar's movements and tapping his phone, the police picked up the suspect for questioning, during which he confessed to stabbing Murali to death and burning his body at an isolated spot.
Indecent proposalDuring questioning, Kumar informed the cops that he was in need of money and approached pro-Kannada organisation member Murali, who was also running a money-lending business with his father, for help.u00a0u00a0
Murali, who he considered his friend, angered him by agreeing to help him on condition that he be allowed to sleep with his wife for a night. He also said that it would not be something new, because his father was doing the same with Kumar's mother in return for money.
Enraged by Murali's demand, Kumar decided to teach him a lesson and sought the help of some friends.
"I considered him my friend and trusted him, but I was not aware that he was eying my wife. He betrayed me and I wanted to teach him a lesson," Kumar confessed to the police.
Murderous intentAfter planning each detail, he called Murali on his mobile and invited him for a talk, stating that he would consider his demand. Unaware of the plan, the victim met Kumar and was abducted in a vehicle and taken to the outskirts of the city. After reaching an isolated place, Kumar pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim repeatedly, killing him on the spot. With the help of five of his friends, the body was doused in petrol and set afire after being stripped of all valuables.
New Yelahanka Town PI Umesh said, "We managed to crack the case with the help of the last call made by Kumar and after a background check on him, we managed to nail him."
