Hospital, NDMC authorities sitting on approval for new hostel for years
Adding to the difficulties of resident doctors at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the condition of hostels is becoming worse by the day. Recently, one of the hostel walls crumbled over a doctor's car. A written complaint in this regard has been sent to the higher authorities. MiD DAY has the copy of the complaint.
"I had parked my car near hostel number 8. I was shocked to find my car badly damaged," said Dr Nosezol Sezo, senior resident, Orthopaedics. "It's not just about the car. We live in these hostels, and they are unsafe," said Sezo.
According to the doctors, this is not the first time a hostel wall has come down in the institute premises. "A similar incident took place last month. The condition of hostels is miserable. We have been pitching up the issue for the last two years. No action has been taken as yet," said Dr Debjyoti Karmakar, president, Resident Doctors Association (RDA).
As per residents, the institute desperately needs more hostels too but the NDMC is sitting on the approval.
"New hostel is the panacea for all accommodation-related woes. We are exhausted running from pillar to post. After two years, the engineering section and administration are still struggling with the master plan," said one of the doctors, requesting anonymity. Meanwhile, hostel superintendent Professor Dash and official spokesperson Y K Gupta did not respond to calls or messages.u00a0
