Crysis 2 finally makes its way to consoles with this sequel, a vastly different experience from its predecessor. It swaps the first, open-world jungle setting for a fairly linear romp through New York, taking off from the alien invasion that we got a glimpse of at the end of the first game.
The original game set the benchmark for PC graphics, and Crysis 2 now sets the bar for console graphics. Every frame is gorgeously detailed, and the lighting engine in particular, is phenomenal.
Standing out from a crowd of First Person Shooters revolving around alien invasions, Crysis' USP is the nanosuit; a super-powered suit which grants the user abilities like invisibility cloaks and bullet proof armour for short bursts of time.
This adds a strategic element to Crysis, allowing for stealth kills or the option to go all guns blazing. The well-presented but generic story is told entirely through the first person point of view, and the game feels a little short, offering around 10 hours of play. The enemy AI is buggy at times, and the aliens are just not as fun to fight as the human soldiers.
Overall, the linear level design, flat story and simplified control scheme make this an inferior experience to the first Crysis. Crysis 2 is a very good game in its own right, just not quite as great as the original.
