Authority to make booking of wedding venues more user-friendlyMarital bliss may be made in heaven but a wedding venue plays no mean part. So, this will come as big relief to many eligible Delhiites. Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is likely to change the norms for the allotment of grounds for weddings and other social functions.u00a0
There were reports that DDA grounds were being booked by tentwallahs who were then charging hefty sums from users to allow them to hold social functions at the sites. In some areas the booking amount had gone up to even Rs 50 lakh. DDA has authorised 116 sites for weddings and other social functions in the city.u00a0The decision was taken in a board meeting of Delhi Development Authority, which Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna chaired on Tuesday.
Turning it around"In order to check irregularities in allotment and to stop continued possession of land by tent mafia, the policy which is being contemplated by DDA should be further modified by placing restrictions on the number of days for which land will be allotted," said the official spokesperson, DDA.u00a0
u00a0Authority officials were also of the view that there should be some limit on the total land allotted for a marriage and thirdly a process of providing land on licence-fee-basis should be examined.u00a0"L-G has asked to give a formal proposal in this regard, which should be placed in the next meeting," said the spokesperson. A DDA-approved ground comes for a rent of Rs 25,000-50,000 for a night.
The problem of illegal booking is being throughout the city. "There were even instances when one tentwallah referred a customer to another according to the user's budget. They all work together," said the official.
As per rules, grounds should be allotted directly to residents.
