Admissions in Delhi University colleges got lot more tougher from this year with some colleges demanding even a hundred per cent for admission

FOR those aspiring to take admission in Delhi University (DU) this season, the wait is finally over. The first cut-off list for colleges under DU is out, with science courses becoming the flavour of the new session. The cut-off for Chemistry Hons. in Hansraj College has gone up by a whopping 9 per cent, taking it to 94 per cent, while Physics and Zoology cut-offs have climbed up by 5 per cent, taking the number to 96 and 87, respectively. Botany has seen a hike of 6 per cent, making 82 the cut-off percentage.

To study Chemistry and Physics Hons. in Miranda House, you need to have a score of 90 and 92 per cent, respectively, while Botany and Zoology cut-offs have gone up by 3% and 4%, respectively. Among the south campus colleges, Sri Venkateswara College raised the cut-off for Physics Hons. by 5.33% and the average increase for the rest of the subjects is between 2-3 per cent. On the other hand, Lady Shri Ram College (LSR) has kept it simple by raising the overall percentage in Maths and Statistics Hons. by 3% each.

100 per cent for commerce
Commerce courses, which are very popular among students every year, have witnessed a hike of 2-3 per cent, while on the other hand, the cut off for Humanities courses increased by 2-4 per cent. Although there hasn't been a huge rise in percentages in commerce courses, even then to study B. Com. Hons. in a top college like Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), you will need anything from 96-100 per cent, a hike of 1.25 per cent. However, in other colleges like Venkateswara and Hansraj, cut-offs for B. Com. Hons. and Economic Hons. have seen an increase of 2-3 per cent.u00a0

In Humanities Courses, all DU colleges have raised the cut-off by an average of 2-3 per cent, with the highest cut-off being 95 per cent. A few colleges like LSR has the percentage hiked by 4 per cent in Pol. Science and Sociology.

Principals of various
colleges had predicted after the announcement of CBSE XII results that cut-offs would be higher this time around and the prediction has been bang on. Interestingly, History Hons in Miranda House has witnessed a raise of 7 per cent compared to last year.u00a0"Cut-offs have gone up enormously in 2011 as students on average scored above 95 per cent in XII boards. This time the sciences have come back with a big bang. The cut-offs for Physics and Chemistry, especially, have soared unbelievably. Economics has been and continues to be a popular choice among aspirants. Humanities courses have seen a marginal raise, with History being an exception in our college," said Pratibha Jolly, principal, Miranda House.
