Ravi Ranjan, who hails from a small town in Bihar and is a Sanskrit scholar, got a letter from the administration on Friday evening to vacate the hostel within 48 hours on grounds of misbehaviour.

Ranjan claims he was not given any notice before being asked to vacate the room. According to him a small incident a year back cannot be a reason for such treatment meted out to a student.

"Last year a mess worker had filed a complaint against me as I had a small scuffle with him on serving nhygienic food. My nomination for the hostel president was cancelled then due to the issue. On the grounds of this complaint the university cannot kick me out and that too after it has been more than a year," said Ranjan.

As loud slogans rocked the campus, finally the expulsion was cancelled late on Sunday evening. The Gwyer Hall hostel provost Vasudev Chatterjee refrained from answering phone calls on the issue and was not available for comments.
