A city that's hoping to woo the world this October with some 'sporting gestures' and 'world class infrastructure' cannot ensure the safety of its women.
On Wednesday a 50-year-old businessman allegedly abducted and raped a DU student in his moving car near Moti Nagar area in west Delhi. The accused reportedly knew 19-year-old Neha (name changed) for some time.
Mukesh, a resident of Ashok Vihar area of northwest Delhi has been arrested. Police said that apart from rape he would also be booked for kidnapping as he took the victim to an isolated place forcefully. The accused reportedly runs a papermaking factory in Ashok Vihar area.
"Neha resides in Tilak Nagar area along with her family. She is a first year Commerce student at a renowned DU college. On Wednesday morning she left her home for college when she was allegedly kidnapped by the accused. The accused raped her in an isolated place threatening her of dire consequences. He (Mukesh) then dumped her in front of her college," said a senior police officer.
The victim, with some difficulty, approached the police to report the incident. She was taken to Deen Dyal Updhyay Hospital for medical examination. Tests confirmed that she had been raped. Police said that they were investigating the case.
