A suspect arrested for attempted dacoity slashed himself with a blade on Wednesday afternoon on court premises, when he was about to be produced in front of a magistrate. The suspect has received injuries on his hands and head and was taken to Sassoon Hospital.
The accused, Butkya alias Hemant Ramlu Naik (21), a resident of Tadiwala Road, had fled the spot of crime after he and his accomplices tried to lay siege to a petrol pump in front of the regional transport office on Raja Bahadur Mill Road on September 16. While his accomplices were nabbed that day itself for attempted dacoity, Naik was arrested on Tuesday by the Bund Garden police.
The in-charge of the security of court premises, Inspector Ashok Thorat, said, "Two constables from Bund Garden police station brought Naik to the court on Wednesday around 3 pm seeking remand. Naik and the constables were standing in the open area on first floor of the new building of the district and sessions court, when he slashed his hand and head with a blade." "The police constables escorting Naik then rushed took him to Sassoon Hospital," Thorat said.
