A city workshop will teach photographers and dancers how to communicate with each other and hone their art while working together
How does a dancer move, and how does the photographer capture that movement? It's this relationship between dance and photography that Movement in Stillness, a three-day workshop, hopes to illustrate.
Commercial photographer David de Souza and modern dancer Sumeet Nagdev will conduct this workshop for amateur photographers and dancers, to teach them to use the symbiotic relationship between the two art forms.
Modern dancer Sumeet Nagdev will conduct the workshop for amateur
photographers and dancers.
According to RK Sukhdevsinhji, Resident Director, AVID Essar, which is presenting this workshop, "It is a dancer's dream to have the split second of his/her movement and gesture frozen in a photograph for eternity. It is a photographer's ability to see beyond what a human eye can see. Nagdev and de Souza work together to teach you to feel the palpable tension between dance and photography and how to slice that moment to create that crystal sharp image."
Sukhdevsinhji adds, "The dancers learn two contemporary dances and have a portfolio of themselves taken by the photographers, while the photographers learn to capture the precise moment and showcase their work at the exhibition organised by AVID -- The School of Continuous Learning."
The workshop will culminate in a performance and exhibition on Sunday, August 7, where Nagdev and other trainers from his academy, the Expressions Modern Dance Company will perform.
At: National Gallery of Modern Art, Sir Cowasji Jehangir Hall, near Regal Cinema, MG Road, Colaba.
