Kannada film star Darshan's bail plea has now been postponed to October 7 after prosecution failed to file its objection yesterday. The bail plea came up before the single bench of the High Court, but prosecution sought more time to file its objection as investigations into the case is underway.
No getting away: Actor Darshan, who has acted in over 40 Kannada
movies including Majestic, Kariya and Kalasipalya, has been charged with
attempt to murder, harassment, threat to life and also under the Arms
Act. The actor is alleged to have harassed his wife over the last four
months and had beaten her up on three earlier occasions.
The Vijayanagar police, who have been investigating the case, are yet to file a charge sheet and the prosecution submitted its plea before the court. Considering the plea, the bench adjourned the case with a direction to the prosecution to file their objection without fail.
Disappointed
Darshan's brother Dinakar and wife Vijayalashmi, who came to hear the argument returned disappointed.
Darshan, who was booked for assaulting his wife and for trying to kill his son, is currently lodged in the Central Jail.
It may be recalled that the police arrested Darshan based on the complaint filed by Vijayalakshmi, who accused him of not only physical abuse, but had also threatened to kill her with his licensed pistol.
Soon after Darshan was arrested and produced before the court, Vijayalakshmi tried to retract her statement and even attempted to depose before the magistrate stating that she had slipped in the bathroom sustained injuries.
Taking strong objection, the magistrate paid no heed to Vijayalakshmi's words and refused to grant Darshan bail, and instead ordered the police to remand him to judicial custody.
