Krishi Bhawan is located in the high security zone area of New Delhi district. According to police sources, after breaking into the rooms, the thief spent several hours there. He switched on computers containing data and files pertaining to the ministry, searched for some information, before leaving the place.
Parliament Street police station is looking into the matter. Some officials close to the investigation said that the thief did not steal anything.
"The thief first broke open room number 530 of B-wing. This room is of ministry of agriculture, department of animal husbandry, dairying and fisheries. Subhash Khatri, the under secretary of the ministry, was the first who discovered the incident. He found the two rooms (530 and 435) open. When he went inside he found that things were intact, but a computer was on," said a senior police official, wishing anonymity.
The officer added that though nothing was found missing from the rooms, but as the place belongs to agriculture ministry and computers were found tampered with, they lodged an FIR.
"We don't know why the thief barged in, when he did not want to steal anything. We suspect that he wanted to steal official information from the computer," said the officer.u00a0 He refused to reveal more information about the incident.
