A son of a late bureaucrat was arrested on Thursday afternoon along with his associate for stealing laptops.u00a0
Police said they arrested the two accused Amit and Virender when they were travelling on a scooter near Defence Colony.
"We had a received a tip-off that the accused were going to sell a laptop to their customer on a scooter. A police team stopped them near Kotla traffic signal. When they were questioned, they broke down and confessed their crime," a police official said.u00a0
Ten laptops and nine cell-phones were recovered from their possession. Police said Amit was son of a retired Home Ministry official and after his father's death he had been assisting an advocate in a city court but soon left him. Amit then started committing crimes along with Virender, a native of Nepal.
"They used to break windowpanes of cars and steal laptops and cell phones. They have been involved in over dozen cases," said the official. "Amit had been living in government quarters along with his father. After his father died in 2009, he had to vacate the quarters and started living in Defence Colony," said a senior police official.
