Delhi Assembly has passed a bill, allowing the members who are retired govt officials to get double pension
There's good news for Delhi's MLAs, who are now eligible to get two government pensions.
The state Assemblyu00a0has passed the Bill "The Members of Legislative Assembly of the NCT of Delhi (Salaries, allowance, pension etc) (Amendment) Bill 2009", which makes it possible for city MLAs to receive two government pensions.
There have been a number of MLAs who were government employees prior to joining politics and who draw a pension on that account.
However, when they retired as legislators, they were not eligible for MLA pensions. With the passage of the Bill, they too can now avail both pensions. Among those who will benefit include Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia, Speaker Yoganand Shastri, BJP's senior leaders Vijay Kumar Malhotra and Jagdish Mukhi who are former college teachers.
The amendment has been done with an aim to bring parity in respect of pension of MLAs of Delhi with those of others states such as Maharashtra and Goa.
