Former fireman Subhash Patane has found a job and a home.

Former fireman Subhash Patane has found a job and a home.

After MiD DAY had reported on August 21 that Patane, a veteran fireman of 32 years, was forced to live under a banyan tree in Camp after he lost his job, Nitin Cheda, a human rights activist, offered to hire him as a watchman at an orphanage at Wagholi.

"My heart went out for him and I decided to help him," said Cheda, who shifted Patane to the Deaf and Dumb Residential School and Orphanage on Ganesh Chaturthi.

The orphanage is home to 300 children aged between 2 and 15 years. Shivalal Chavan, head of the orphanage, said, "We have given him a bed and clean clothes and asked doctors to prescribe some medicines."
