On Friday, the Andheri metropolitan court remanded director Mehul Kumar to police custody for 14 days. Film producer Jayantilal Gada registered a case against Kumar at the Juhu police station, alleging that the latter took Rs 6 crore from him to make a Hindi film in 2000 but never made it.
Gada approached the Andheri Metropolitan Court, which directed Juhu Police station to register a cheating case and investigate the matter. Investigations were carried out and a chargesheet was filed.
Kumar approached the court for anticipatory bail, which was rejected. The court directed the police to produce Kumar at the Andheri Metropolitan court on Friday morning, after which he was remanded to judicial custody.
Senior Police Inspector Arun Bhagat, Juhu Police station said, "We registered an FIR against Kumar after the court's direction and he has been remanded to judicial custody. We are yet to take his custody as some paper work is being processed. Our investigations will intensify once we take him in our custody."u00a0
