As if that was not enough, residents of the area claimed that bar girls were also invitees to the doctors' party. When the police tried to intervene, the drunk doctors hurled abuses at them, and had a scuffle with media personnel who had reached the spot.

The doctors, who are members of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), had gathered on the terrace of the IMA building near Tipu Sultan's palace to felicitate Dr G K Ramachandrappa, who was recently made the president of the association.

Whistling, singing
The IMA building is located near a boys' hostel. According to the residents, the inebriated doctors started whistling and shouting, disturbing the neighbours as well as the student of the hostel.

When the doctors realised they had an audience, they started singing even louder. Some of them even took it upon themselves to repeat dialogues from Kannada movies for their unamused and unwilling viewers.

Public nuisance
According to eyewitnesses, the most repeated line was ''Yaru ballaru nanna buja balada parakrama (Behold the power of my arms) from the movie Babruvahana.

The worried neighbours and students of Rajanarasimha Boys' Hostel locked their doors and went to sleep. The doctors completely ignored the fact that they were disturbing the peace and went on a partying spree. But a director of an Urban Co-operative Bank, who had come from Hasan, couldn't tolerate the torture anymore and went to complain.

He fumed, "These are government doctors and have a good reputation in the society, but they are acting like rowdies. I believe these doctors wouldn't even hesitate to operate in an inebriated state. I even noticed some bar girls, but they sent them away when the neighbourhood woke up."

'Private party'
Finally, irate neighbours called the police. But the police got a rude shock, when the doctors started alleging that the police had entered the premises without permission. By this time, media personnel had arrived as well. A doctor, identified as Narasimhaswamy, tried to hit a mediaperson, but fell down himself.

As soon as they saw the gathered media personnel, they started hurling abuses at them. They even tried to snatch cameras.

They claimed that it was a private party, and that they were not breaking any laws.u00a0 When a neighbour pointed out that they were creating a ruckus, a doctor, identified as Shrinivas, said, "If they want to party as well, who's stopping them?"

He didn't answer the public nuisance question. He then lost control, and tried to hit a few people, but was stopped by the police.

The ruckus continued until 2 am. Police personnel refused to comment, and said that the matter would be sorted by morning. They are yet to ascertain if bar girls were present or not.
