Look before you take a sip of 'The Taste of India' as the bottle of the popular brand of flavoured milk products might have some pests in it.

Devendra Sharma, a resident of Paharganj, was about to give a bottle of Amul's elaichi flavoured milk to his children when he found the neck of the bottle was rusted and flies sticking to the neck of another. He had bought the two bottles of the Amul Cool flavoured milk from Store 18 in Noida.

"I was shocked. I checked the expiry date mentioned on the bottle which showed the milk has not yet expired," said a stunned Devendra.

The manufacturing date mentioned on the bottle is 28/07/2010 and the milk would expire on the 180th day from the date of manufacturing. Reportedly, Devendra bought the flavoured milk on September 20 and the product is yet to reach expiry date.

Devendra is one of the regular customers of Store 18. But after the incident he is apprehensive about buying products from the store again.

"Now I won't buy any product from this store. I used to trust them, but I cannot take anyu00a0 risk with the health of my children. In case my kids had consumed the milk, who would have taken the responsibility?" asked Devendra.

The Other Side

When MiD DAY contacted the store, they were unaware of the issue. But they readily agreed to exchange the bottle for a new one. "Please bring the bottle back to us. We will send it to the company," said Aditya Kumar, the cashier of the store.

Repeated e-mails to the Amul for a comment on the story were not returned.

In 2003, non-government organisation on Tuesday claimed that the bottled soft drinks owned by two multi national companies -- PepsiCo and Coke -- tested positive for pesticides.

"12 major cold drink brands sold in Delhi [ Images ] and around contain a deadly cocktail of pesticide residues," Centre for Science and Environment said in New Delhi.

According to the tests conducted by the Pollution Monitoring Laboratory of CSE, all samples contained residues of four extremely toxic pesticides and insecticides: lindane, DDT, malathion and chlorpyrifos. Three samples each of the 12 brands purchased from markets across the city, analysed in April-August and found to contain pesticides residues are Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Diet Pepsi, Mirinda orange, Mirinda Lemon, Blue Pepsi, 7-Up, Coca Cola, Fanta, Limca, Sprite and Thumbs Up. It was claimed that these pesticides included potent carcinogens which can cause cancers and reduce bone mineral density.
