A seven-year-old girl was killed on her birthday when a drag racer knocked her down in Govindraj Nagar last Friday. Though police seized the killer vehicle from the spot, they have failed to trace the rider.
The victim, Chitra, was playing in front of her house when the incident occurred. The drag racer is said to have lost control and ran over the child. Chitra died on the spot. The rider fledu00a0u00a0 fearing public wrath leaving the bike behind.
Passers-by rushed the profusely-bleeding Chitra to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead.u00a0
Chitra was the youngest daughter of Basavraj, a schoolteacher. Basavraj had four children, of which three had died due to various reasons.
Police warning
Traffic police had issued a stern warning after drag racer Mohammed Mukarram was gunned down by Air Force security personnel near Trinity junction in December. Assistant commissioner of police, Chandrashekhar, who is supervising the investigations said would would look into the case.
