In a drugs racket bust, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested three people, among them a Nashik-based woman who was allegedly a leading supplier of fine quality charas suspected to have been smuggled into the country via Kashmir.
The ATS recovered 14 kg of charas worth Rs 14 lakh in the drug bust. The suspects were identified as Mohsin Nasir Khan (28) of Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh, and Mehmood Salim Shaikh (20) and Shamshaad Yunus Shaikh (30), both residents of Nashik.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Inspector M V Gaikwad of the ATS nabbed Mohsin and Mehmood near an ATM outside Shivajinagar railway station around 5 pm on Wednesday and recovered 5 kg of charas from them. "Based on what Mehmood confessed, the ATS raided Shamshad's residence in Bhadravati and recovered 9 kg of charas," said Inspector Gaikwad.
The ATS also found a weighing machine, a bag and Rs 18,280 in cash. The ATS produced the suspects in yesterday and they were remanded in police custody till April 20.
