About 20,000 students from 350 Zilla Parishad (ZP) schools in the district will for the first time be exposed to e-learning methods as the ZP has decided to introduce a special software for the purpose in the current academic year.
The ZP has kept aside Rs 3.5 crore for the project. In the first phase, the e-learning project will involve Std V students. ZP officials said the project would become functional in the second semester, after the Diwali vacations.

ZP Primary Education Officer Dattatray Shendkar yesterday said the tendering process for the implementation of the project that would bring interactive learning to 350 schools was already underway.u00a0"We are not expecting the teachers' role to be replaced by this new digital e-board," Shendkar said. "There are many concepts in subjects like mathematics, science, geography and even languages which students can't understand from textbooks alone. Education Officer Piraji Patil said their new initiative would be different from the these private schools.u00a0"A lot of software is available in the market and many schools have used the readymade stuff, but here the difference is that the ZP has specified its demand in the tendering process itself," Patil said.

The ZP formed a special committee has worked on the Std V syllabus and specified all its needs for the e-learning tools. "According to a report submitted by this committee, we have mentioned our exact demand concerning the e-learning material," Patil said. September 18 is the last date for submission of the tender for the e-learning project, the details of which are available on the website www.mahatenders.gov.in.
