Dr PV Indirasen, Padma Bhushan awardee and chairman of technical expert committee of the Election Commission, was found dead in the bathtub of his room yesterday

Dr PV Indirasen, former director of IIT Madras and chairman of technical expert committee of the Election Commission, died in mysterious circumstances at YASHADA guesthouse in Baner yesterday. The 84-year-old Padma Bhushan awardee was found dead in the bathtub of his room.

Dr Indirasen had come to the city from Delhi on Saturday to attend meeting with officials of the Center of Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC). The meeting was scheduled for yesterday morning.

"A meeting Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) was to be held at 10 am. We waited for Dr Indirasen for sometime, but then got the news of his death," said Rajat Moona, director general, CDAC.

Speaking to MiD DAY, a guesthouse staffer said, "As per the routine, one of our staff members went to Dr Indirasen's room to give him bed tea, but he didn't open the door. Then, around 8.30 am, we tried to call him for breakfast. Yet again he didn't answer the call. Even when a room service staffer went to clean the room, he didn't respond," said.

The staff members then contacted the facility administration, which decided to check what's wrong from the bathroom window. They were shocked to see Dr Indirasen lying in the bathtub motionless.

According to Chaturshrungi police, a cause of accidental death (by drowning) been registered. However, his viscera have been preserved to find more about the reason that led to his death. Dr Indirasen's body was flown to Delhi last evening.
