The Guide trailed the smells wafting from these city restaurant kitchens for that perfect traditional yuletide lunch to make your Christmas oh-so-special
What's Christmas without a traditional spread? While elaborate buffets serving everything from soups to starters to main courses are fine, it is a chunk of roasted meat or turkey served with lashings of meat infused gravy or a chunk of Christmas pudding to celebrate a wholesome Christmas. We play guide to some of the most authentic lunches that you can sink your teeth into.
Eat the Globe this Christmas
Gorge on typical Christmas dishes from across the world over a lunch and dinner feast. From egg caviar salad served with Blinis (a small pancake served with butter and sour cream) from Russia and Melba Toast from Australia to grilled artichoke hearts are starters you can tuck into before moving on to traditional mains with a twist like Blue Cheese and Vegetarian British Shepherd's Pie, Beef Wellington and Lobster Thermidor.
But the dessert is where it gets really traditional. Try the Christmas pudding with Anglaise or brandy butter sauce, Chocolate Panettone, a traditional Italian Christmas rich bread with Kahlua Anglaise, Stollen, a German Christmas cake served with Cognac Anglaise. The City Bar also has a take-away counter where they are stocking up on goodies like plum pudding, Stollen, Chocolate Panettone, Yuletide Log, Ginger Bread Men and brandy truffles among others.

A Southern Treat
At this fine dining eatery that serves cuisine from the four Southern states, the Christmas special buffet is offering some delicious specialities from Southern India carte du jour. Start your meal with a Koli Belulli Roast, chicken wings marinated with garlic, spices and deep fried, move on to Mokajuna Vadalu, lentil and corn patties.
The Syrian Seafood Biryani should be the perfect way to celebrate Christmas in a spicy style. Go desi on sweets too with Akki Channabele Payasa, rice and lentil cooked with milk, sugar and cardamom or a Dry Fruit Appam, dumplings made with refined flour, sugar and dry fruits.

A Turkey Overload
Forget the ordinary turkey; instead settle for the Roast Turkey Galantine at this Christmas brunch. A dish in which turkey meat, ground pork, ham, and veal, boiled tongue and ham are combined with herbs, truffles and nuts into a roll. It is steamed, cooled and then carved. The Turkey Galantine will be served with cranberry sauce washed down with a glass of mulled wine. And for those with a sweet tooth there's Yule Log, Mince Pies, Christmas pudding and cake.

Have a Piggy Christmas
If it's Christmas then you definitely need to make a stop at this cult joint for your share of tradition. And it's not turkey that takes the centre stage this Christmas but it definitely looks like the year of the pig, what with their line up of traditional and exotic Christmas style pork. Try their roast pork or duck or the more traditional pot roasted pork with white wine, barbeque pork and turkey. This year's speciality is the Korean roast pork and Korean fish. And no meal is complete at Koshy's on Christmas without the plum pudding served with brandy butter sauce.
